One week after it claimed the Monterey Bay Shootout, the San Benito girls water polo team earned another first-place finish at the Carmel Invitational last Saturday with three comfortable victories.

The Balers outscored its three opponents by a 41-8 margin, with a 15-2 win over Santa Catalina, a 16-2 victory against Salinas, and a 10-4 win against Homestead.

San Benito is now 14-3 overall, and remains 4-0 in Tri-County Athletic League play.

The Carmel Invitational was set up into two team brackets, although the winners of each bracket did not face each other. San Benito’s league rival Gilroy won the other bracket at the Carmel Invitational.

Hannah Smith led all-scorers with 12 goals through three games played, while teammate Caitlin Schafer added 10 goals. Lindsay De La Torre supplied the team with five goals, Sarina Schekenburger and Rebecca Torres each had four, Hannah Blake added three, while Lauren Lango, Rachel Estep and Jeanett Rodriguez each added one goal apiece.

Rodriguez, meanwhile, had seven steals in San Benito’s final match against Homestead.

The Balers will return to TCAL play on Wednesday when they will be hosting Monterey at 3:30 p.m.
