The San Benito girls water polo team won it’s first Monterey Bay League game Monday, defeating Stevenson 13-6.

The Balers took an early lead and never trailed in the game to improve to 1-2 in league play during the early season.

San Benito scored three first-quarter goals to take a 3-1 lead. The Balers scored at least three goals in each quarter to extend their lead.

The season continues at 4 p.m. Wednesday against Aptos at home.

In their first season in the Gabilan Division of the MBL, the Balers are having trouble winning their first league game. Those struggles continued Monday against Monterey at the San Benito pool.

The Balers lost 8-7 to the Toreadors to move to 0-3 in league play.

The two teams traded goals throughout the contest, leaving each quarter tied. But in the fourth quarter, Monterey scored one more goal than the Balers to earn the win.

It was the second consecutive one-goal loss for the Balers.

The Balers travel to Aptos at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
