Editor,
For me the presence of Ms. Cindy Sheehan at the Bush ranch points to the extremes that opposition voices have to go to to be heard by this least democratic of all administrations.
They are afraid of the give-and-take necessary to an open and truly egalitarian system. I think it goes far beyond the fact his handlers are well aware that George Bush would simply be unable to formulate an articulate, intelligible responses to the simplest of arguments and delineates their belief in a system that would eliminate the opposition entirely and allow corporate control of every aspect of American, and, indeed, global life.
Whatever your opinion of the conduct of this war, surely anyone possessed of an interest in resolving the mess can see that the office of the presidency is intended to be responsive to the voices of all Americans. I call on the president to be an American first, an ideologue never.
