Editor,

In response to your Wine Guy column, “Paso Robles Offers New Adventures in Wine,” L’Aventure Optimus overpriced at $45? In comparison to what? What are you basing this statement on? Certainly not other Syrah/Cab/Zin blends from the area, because there aren’t many, and even if there were they would probably pale in comparison to the Optimus. People who know and love the Paso Robles region and the wines produced there know that Stephan Asseo’s L’Aventure wines are among the finest wines produced in that area regardless of price.

Considering you’ve never heard of classic Rhone grape varieties such as Viogner and Rousanne, (expressed best in Paso by Garettson Wine Co.), I’ll chalk your uneducated statement up to the fact that you are a novice. You should really do some more research and gain more experience in all aspects of wine before calling a wine a “masterpiece” in one sentence and then deriding it as “overpriced” in the next.
