Dear Editor,
A recent column in another newspaper strongly implied the Pro-Freedom individuals that meet at the corner of Fourth Street and San Benito Street at 4:30 on Friday afternoons were pro-war Republicans. That is incorrect.
The Pro-Freedom group is not affiliated with the Republican Party. There have been both Democrats and Republicans expressing a preference for freedom versus acceptance of terrorism at any price, surrender or appeasement. One individual, a registered Independent, spent several of their early years in a Japanese Internment Camp in Southeast Asia during the early 1940s. That individual is very pro-freedom.
The pro-war label is also incorrect. Our signs say WAR BAD; PEACE GOOD; FREEDOM BEST, in English and Spanish, FREEDOM IS NOT FREE, SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, and similar sayings.
The column also referred to our screeching. That could only be our music, which includes songs such as “Onward Christian Soldiers,” America the Beautiful” and The Star Spangled Banner.”
If you would like to express your desire for freedom, join us. If you do not want your daughters to go to school, or you do want your women to have to wear burkas, join the people across the street.
