Riverside Road’s reputation might be short-lived as a dumping ground for residents who are too lazy to drop off their garbage in a dumpster or somewhere else more civilized.

Early last week, there had been an array of scattered garbage along the road, which is west of Hollister near Union Road.

There were two sets of garbage bags about a quarter of a mile apart.

It ended up taking more than a week to get it picked up, but the trash – which included dry spaghetti spilled onto the roadside and a diaper – was cleaned sometime later Tuesday or Wednesday.

The San Benito County Public Works Department responds to such messes. If the trash is in the road, roads manager Mike Watson will send out a crew to pick it up.

But if it is beside the road – as in this case – the department sends a form to Norcal Waste Systems to handle the work.
