Lady Rams sweep Ohlone College in three
LIVERMORE
The Gavilan men’s soccer team remains winless in the Coast Conference after it dropped two games last week and fell to 0-10 in league.
On Monday the Rams lost to West Valley College 4-1 in a game that was originally scheduled for Sept. 30.
“We played okay, but we were out-matched,” coach Albert Marques said. “Gavilan played tough to the very end, and as coaches we were happy with that.”
Sobrato graduate Victor Iracheta scored the only goal midway through the second half for the Rams, which trailed West Valley 2-nil at halftime.
On Friday, Gavilan’s fortunes did not change as it lost to Las Positas College in Livermore, 5-1.
Gavilan trailed 2-0 at halftime in that contest as well, but Erick Erosa’s goal midway through the second half cut the deficit to one.
“But in a matter of four minutes we gave up three goals,” Marques said. “It went from a 2-1 game to a 5-1 game. We got caught off-guard and they capitalized on it.”
The Rams are now 4-12 overall.
Gavilan has just four games remaining on their Coast Conference schedule, three of which are at home.
This week, the Rams will host Mission College on Tuesday and Skyline College on Thursday.
Both games are at 3 p.m., in Gilroy.
GAVILAN COLLEGE WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
The Gavilan College women’s volleyball sweeped Ohlone College last Wednesday in three games (25-10, 25-15, 25-9) in Gilroy.
Coupled with a four-game loss to West Valley College on Oct. 24, and the Lady Rams are now 14-9 overall and 5-2 in the Coast Conference.
They will play on the road Wednesday at San Jose City College.
Match time is 6:30 p.m.
