The Hollister School District announced that one of its teachers from Rancho San Justo Middle School has been awarded a top honor for the region.
According to an announcement from the HSD:
Stacey Chan, a teacher at Rancho San Justo Middle School in Hollister, was awarded the California League of Middle Schools (CLMS) Region 5 Educator of the Year award for 2015-2016. Mrs. Chan faced serious competition from nine other outstanding educators from all content areas and was honored in a ceremony held on December 3rd, at San Juan Oaks.
Region 5 of the California League of Middle Schools held its 2015-2016 CLMS Educator of the Year Celebration in conjunction with the California League of Schools. “We were fortunate that the event was held in Hollister this year, the year a Hollister School District teacher took the top award,” said Gary McIntire, Hollister School District Superintendent. Lisa Jelinek, principal at Rancho San Justo added, “The Rancho family is an amazing team and we are all incredibly proud of Mrs. Chan, but not surprised, as she is an integral part of everything we do. We are so excited for her. I know she will represent us well in Sacramento.”
Ms. Chan was chosen from ten finalists who are educators in San Benito, Santa Clara, Monterey, and Santa Cruz Counties. Each of the finalists was nominated by his or her administrator and once chosen, was notified that the CLMS Region 5 judging panel would visit each individual’s school for a classroom observation. At the Award dinner, each candidate presented a short speech highlighting the best reasons for being a middle school teacher in the 21st century. The Region 5 finalist was determined following the speeches that evening.
Mrs. Chan will be heading to Sacramento in February to represent Region 5 in the competition for California Middle School Teacher of the Year. We are proud that such an outstanding educator comes from the Hollister School District.
