On Sunday, five boys from Cub Scout Pack 455 in Hollister were the recipients of the Arrow of Light Award, the highest honor given at this level before becoming Boy Scouts. The honorees were Bryce Perino, Kevin Medina, Evan Duran, Christopher Engelhardt and Miguel Perez.

The Arrow of Light Award is the only Cub Scout honor that can be worn on a Boy Scout uniform.

In order to receive an Arrow of Light, the boys had to complete a variety of requirements during their last two years with the pack. This included being active in a Webelos den for at least six months, showing their knowledge of the requirements to become a Boy Scout, and earning activity badges in mental and outdoor skills, technology, community awareness, and physical activity.

At the ceremony, the boys received a certificate of achievement, a plaque, and an arrow striped to signify the different ranks they achieved during their careers in Cub Scouts. At the end of the ceremony, the boys participated in the crossover ceremony to become Boy Scouts. Four are joining Boy Scout Troop 455, led by Scout Master John Corrigan. Here, they will begin their journey to becoming an Eagle Scout. Perez is joining Troop 400.

Cub Scout Pack 455 and Boy Scout Troop 455 are a part of the newly formed Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council. For information about joining Scouts, go to http://svmbc.org/svmbc/.
