PJ’s Angels of Hollister stormed through the loser’s bracket with six victories Sunday to capture the title of the 28th annual Men’s Garlic Festival ‘E’ Softball Tournament at Christmas Hill Park.
Los Gigantes of Gilroy won five games to earn a spot in the finals, then dropped games of 6-5 and 13-3 to the Angels to settle for second place in the 20-team field.
Efrain Atondo and Esteban Martinez garnered three hits each in the finale for PJ’s Angels. Daniel Banderas hit a solo home run as the Angels erased a 5-2 deficit in the first showdown.
Los Gigantes earned a forfeit win over Olam, then topped defending champion Just Blaze 13-3 and outlasted 2012 runner-up Team FUPA 15-3 to move into Sunday play unbeaten.
Los Gigantes topped Good Fellas 23-6 Sunday morning, then powered past Broke Bat Mountain 23-1 to set up the meetings with PJ’s Angels.
Broke Bat Mountain finished third with a 3-1 mark. Freddie Sanchez Hardwood Floors took the fourth-place t-shirts with six victories. See Grins and Good Fellas shared fifth place, Team FUPA and Just Blaze each with seventh-place accolades.
