This week the Red Phone heard from a dismayed Hollinet user and another caller hoping the city sticks to its word to keep the cannery quiet. The every-ready Red Phone is on the case.
Almost had it with Hollinet
One of our callers grows tired with service outages by local Internet provider Hollinet as a new owner struggles to get things in order after buying the company out of Chapter 7 Bankruptcy.
“I’m calling the Red Line here to see if you knew what was going on with Hollinet,” he said. “I’ve been trying to get a hold of them. I called last weekend and they’re not taking any messages and I wonder if somebody can fill me in on what’s going on? What do I got to do – wait for what or get another provider?”
Service has been out, new owner James McDonald admitted in a Free Lance news article yesterday. He said one of the computers serving dial-up customers ran out of memory resulting in a number of users inability to connect to the net or check their e-mail. The new company, with the same name, is busy sorting through paperwork, assembling a new support staff and getting the bugs worked out of a system he called “a ghost ship.” However, McDonald promises service should be back in full-swing by next week and new features will be added. Another caller expressed concern that when the cannery fires up for production soon, so will the noise.
“I’m calling regarding the cannery because the season is about to start and last year the Free Lance checked into the noise level and they’re supposed to fix that this year,” she said “I just wondered if that happened or if the noise is going to be way up into the 90 decibels again.”
Red Phone made calls around the city but to no avail – yet. Only time will time tell if the 70 to 90 decibel moan will continue this summer. Although, the city stated it plans to keep an eye on the cannery before the season started in Free Lance articles last summer. However, that was before code enforcement officer Tim Burns was laid off from his position earlier this year. The Red Phone made calls to the city but none were returned by press time. Not to worry, the Red Phone has put the cannery issue on hold while it continues to look for answers and the Free Lance staff has their eyes and ears on the issue as well.
