A resident called the Red Phone this week to complain about areas on Union Road between San Benito Street and Highway 156 where the reflectors don’t seem to be working all that well. He noted that there had been some paving done to the roads and said some of the reflectors don’t do much reflecting these days.
San Benito County Public Works Administrator Steve Wittry said paving and striping work done on the road last summer, funded through a grant, resulted in new reflectors. The problem is that the new reflectors make the old reflectors still remaining “look less than great,” he said.
Over time, especially with vehicles running over the reflectors and leaving debris, they get dirty and lose their “reflectivity,” he said.
He said the county does not currently have any program or financing in place to replace the remaining reflectors.
