Schools and families across America who participate in the Red Ribbon Photo Contest have a chance to win $1,000 and an iPad for the K-12 school of their choice.
Starting Thursday and running through Oct. 31, this year’s Red Ribbon Week marks the 29th year concerned citizens have used little loops of red fabric to promote drug awareness and prevention among youth.
“This contest is a great way for families and schools to deliver the ‘Love Yourself. Be Drug Free.’ message,” said Peggy Sapp, president of the nonprofit running the photo competition, in a press release. “By uniting and involving families, schools and communities, we can be more effective in helping our children make smart decisions and grow up safe, healthy and drug free.”
The contest is run by the National Family Partnership, formerly the National Federation of Parents for Drug Free Youth – a grassroots, nonprofit organization founded by parents in 1980 as a way to take a leadership role in drug prevention.
The nonprofit will award 10 prizes of iPads and money to families across the nation. There will also be a prize awarded for the best school decoration.
To enter, families can decorate their home’s front door, mailbox or fence with a double-looped red ribbon that fits the theme: “Love yourself. Be drug free.” Then, they can submit a photo to RedRibbon.org/enter through Nov. 19.
Winners will be announced Dec. 5. For more information, go to RedRibbon.org.
