Rev. Peter F. Filice July 11, 1940 – October 1, 2013

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 7, 2013, at 7:30 P.M., at the Mission Church, Santa Clara University, 500 El Camino Real, Santa Clara 95053 with burial at 10:30 A.M., on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery, 490 Lincoln Street, Santa Clara 95050.  Rev. Peter J. Filice, S.J., 73, died October 1, 2013, at El Camino Hospital, Los Gatos.
 Peter was born in San Jose on July 11, 1940, and was raised in Gilroy. He attended Bellarmine College Preparatory, San Jose, and entered the Jesuit novitiate at Los Gatos in 1958. His training for the priesthood was done at Gonzaga University, Spokane, and the Jesuit School of Theology, Berkeley. He was ordained to the priesthood in San Francisco on June 5, 1971.
 During his course of studies he taught Latin and French at Loyola High School, Los Angeles (1965-68)
Peter’s ministry over the years was varied. He was engaged in both direct pastoral ministry and administration on the province and local community level. He served as executive assistant to the Provincial of the California Jesuits (1971-74 and 1985-89), Rector-President of Loyola High School, Los Angeles (1975-81), and administrator of the Jesuit communities at      the Jesuit School of Theology, Berkeley (1981-84), the Jesuit novitiate in Santa Barbara (1989-93), and at Santa Clara University (1993-2004). He was the Superior of the Loyola High School community, 2006-2012.
 His pastoral ministry included campus ministry at St. Ignatius College Preparatory, San Francisco, and Santa Clara University. He was director of adult spirituality at Loyola High School during his term as superior and he was briefly a retreat director at Jesuit Retreat Center, Los Altos.
 Peter was a fine administrator who distinguished himself in his many assignments. He was generous, kind and compassionate, a good teacher and a wonderful cook.
He is survived by his sister, Louise Vita (Garry) of Gilroy. He was predeceased by a brother, Anthony.
