Richard Eugene Janisch Sr. passed away at his home in Gilroy Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at the age of 78 surrounded by his loving family.

Loving husband of 55 years to Mary M. Janisch of Gilroy. Dear father of Michael Janisch of Hollister, Stephen Janisch (Sandy) of Gilroy, Cara Ragan of Gilroy and Richard Eugene Janisch II (Judy) of Gilroy. Grandfather of 10. Great-grandfather of two. Native of Sioux Falls, SD. Moved to Santa Clara area in 1966. Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict. Member of Gilroy American Legion and the Veteran of Foreign Wars and Knights of Columbus. Worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for 40 yrs. retiring from Granite Construction in 1993. Then worked for Dan Persuina as a produce driver and was known throughout his neighborhood as the “Corn Man”. Active member of St. Mary’s Church. Also worked at St. Joseph’s Family Center and volunteered at the Gilroy Senior Center.

He was a good friend to many local seniors – driving them to appointments, shopping and spending time with them –he received the Chamber of Commerce “Good Egg” Award this past year. Enjoyed camping, hunting, country music and attending all of his grandchildren’s events.

Memorial Mass Friday, February 18, 2011 – 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Church, Gilroy. Family would appreciate donations to St. Joseph’s Family Center or Gilroy Senior Center.
