On Tuesday, July 15, life-long Hollister resident Richard Ray Castro died at Hazel Hawkins Hospital at the age of 75.

Castro is a veteran of the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a former member of the American Legion Post of Hollister and a member of the Italian Catholic Federation of Hollister. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He worked as a soda, beer and water distributor with Castro Beverage Company in Hollister. He also worked at Sierra Water Company for 25 years.

Castro was preceded in death by daughter Diana Burges, brother Gene Castro and parents Ray and Ann Castro. He is survived by his wife Frances B. Castro of Hollister; son Donald R. Castro of Hollister; sister Marilyn Castro of Hollister; stepson Jim Zazueta of Susanville, Calif.; and stepdaughter Ruth Ann Beelaard of Hollister. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements have been made for private cremation through Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Crematory. Friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass Monday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Donations are preferred to the VNA, care of the mortuary chapel.
