Rita F. Ruiz passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in
Gilroy on Saturday, May 14 at the age of 67.
Rita F. Ruiz passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Gilroy on Saturday, May 14 at the age of 67.

She was the wife of the late Oscar J. Ruiz Sr. A loving and caring woman, she is survived by her children Pamela J. Vilchis, and her husband, David of Gilroy, Oscar J. Ruiz Jr. of Los Banos and Cindy Casillas, and her husband, Val of Gilroy; grandchildren David Vilchis and his fiance, Kim Trujillo of Gilroy, Kimberly Vilchis and her fiance, Marcus Pena, of Gilroy, Tabitha, Desirea and Felicia Vilchis all of Gilroy and Val Casillas III and Sergio Casillas both of Gilroy; great-grandchildren Jasmine and Jade Vilchis and Mason Pena all of Gilroy; sister Dolores Acosta of Hollister, Geri Castro of Hollister, Marie Valdez of Gilroy, Josephine Areola of Gilroy, Joseph Twitchell of Indiana, Bob and Jack Mota of Modesto, and Mac Mota of Hollister and the late Raymon Rodriguez and Joann Sendejas.

Mrs. Ruiz was born and raised in Hollister. She graduated from Hollister High School. After moving to Gilroy, she married her in 1961. She worked off and on at Gentry’s, Olsen’s, and Scientific Games in Gilroy.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Church. She managed the old Guadalupe Apartments on Eigleberry Street for many years. She enjoyed gardening and being involved with her grandchildren’s activities. She loved going to the beach, barbecuing and having parties with her family.

A memorial Mass will be held at 1pm on Thursday May 19 at St. Mary’s Church in Gilroy under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
