Robert L. Brookshire, “Bob”, was 83 years old when he went home to be with the Lord. After a five year battle with cancer, Bob died Sunday, Dec.12.
He was a native of Hollister and attended Hollister High and San Benito College. He was the son to the late John Wesley and Yolanda Brookshire. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force, then went to work at the U.S. Post Office for 30 years as a letter carrier and then went to work for Smith & Taliferro 76 Gas Station.
Bob was a lover of sports and a member of the Hollister Elk’s Lodge, Sirs Club and the ICF organizations.
Bob is survived by his beloved daughter, Barbara Anne McCoy and husband Jim, of Oakley; son Joseph Dragelis of Salinas; grandson Jeffrey McCoy of Pinole; granddaughter, Elizabeth Rivera and her husband, Robert Rivera; great-granddaughters, Isabella and Analisa Rivera of Oakley; brothers Wesley Brookshire, wife, Betty, and Marco Brookshire, wife Barbara, all of Hollister; stepson, Larry Gardner and wife, Eva, of San Francisco; step-granddaughters, Elaine and Irene Gardner of San Francisco; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Bob will be remembered as a gentle, caring and giving man.
He was preceded in death by his wife Anne, who died in 1988, his second Virginia, who died in July 2004, and his sister Emma Vogel who died in 2001.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, Dec.16, at 11am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fifth and College streets in Hollister. Private inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Hollister.
Arrangements for funeral services and cremation are under the direction of Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home and Crematory.
Contributions are preferred to Mabie Skilled Nursing Facility, Visiting Nurses Assn. or American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
