Robert C. Fernandes died in Watsonville, CA, on Dec. 28, 2006, at the age of 82. He was born in Concord and lived in Hollister for many years. He also lived in Fallon, NV, for several years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator and was a rancher and was an avid welder and liked woodworking. He was a WWII veteran serving honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ramona Aliph Fernandes, who died in 2002.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Bob and Jennifer Fernandes of Hollister and Kathleen and Richard Gillespie of Fallon, NV, his brothers and sisters, George (Jean) Fernandes of Fallon, NV, Jack Fernandes of Modesto, CA, Joan Gokin of Modesto and Marie Fernandes, his grandchildren, Christopher (Starr) Fernandes of Mountain House, CA, Bob (Erin) Fernandes of San Ramon, CA, Joey Somavia, Donna Gillespie, Heather Gillespie and Bill Gillespie and one great-grandson, Dominic Fernandes.

Friends can pay their respects on Tues., Jan. 2, 2007, from 12:00 noon until 8:00 P.M. at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home in Hollister, CA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. at Immaculate Conception Church in Tres Pinos. Friends can gather at the funeral home for a procession to the church.

Interment and military rites will be held on Monday, Jan. 8, 2007 at 1:00 P.M. at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, McCabe Rd. in Santa Nella.
