Robert J. Mozzone, of Gilroy, loving husband of the late Mary F. Mozzone, died peacefully at O’Connor Hospital twelve days following a cardiac arrest.

Born in San Jose to Italian immigrant parents, Fiorenza and Fiorenzo Mozzone, Robert was the youngest of five children. He attended Almaden Elementary School, where he excelled as a bright and friendly student. At Campbell High School he met his sweetheart and future wife, Mary Emler. Together they farmed the family orchards and vineyard in the Almaden valley, enjoyed gatherings with friends and family, and raised three children, Tony, Terri and Tom.

In 1964 Robert moved his family to Gilroy, where he continued farming prune orchards, cucumbers and flowers for seed. He loved helping others, good humor, good food, Westerns, nature, fishing, gardening, and was an active member of St. Mary’s Church, the Gilroy Elks, The Farm Bureau and I.C.F.

He is survived by his children Terri Mozzone of Highlandville, Iowa, Tom Mozzone (wife Kathie) of Gilroy; his companion Polly Boyd; sisters Marie Piumarta of Los Altos, Carol Petroni of San Jose; grandchildren Ryan Burgman of Las Vegas, Sara Burgman of Portland, Oregon, Brandy Mozzone (Jose Rosas) of the home in Gilroy, Tom Mozzone, Jr. of San Jose, Tamura Mozzone of San Jose, great-granddaughter Arillana Rosas of the home, and several nephews, nieces and cousins. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary and his eldest son Tony.

A visitation will be held at the Habing Funeral Chapel in Gilroy on Wednesday, August 27th, beginning at 5:00 P.M., with Vigil following at 7:00 P.M. On Thursday, August 28th, Funeral Services will begin at 9:00 A.M. at Habing Funeral Chapel, followed by a 10:00 A.M. mass at St. Mary’s Church in Gilroy.
