Mills passed away May 10 at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital at
the age of 65. Bob grew up in the Cienega Area of San Benito
County, attended Cienega Grammar School and graduated from San
Benito High School.
Hollister native Robert Lee “Bob” Mills passed away May 10 at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital at the age of 65. Bob grew up in the Cienega Area of San Benito County, attended Cienega Grammar School and graduated from San Benito High School. Bob was active in F.F.A. while in high school, showing his animals at the Grand National and at the Cow Palace. Bob worked for Almaden Winery as a carpenter when he graduated from high school; as a boiler operator for Fairview Cannery; as a carpenter for several Hollister contractors; and ultimately became a self-employed general contractor building homes in San Benito County, which he did for many years. Bob was described by his children as a private person who enjoyed riding at Hollister Hills with his grandchildren, spending time outside camping, fishing, hunting and mostly being with his family.
He was the son of the late Everett and Margaret Mills. He is survived by his children Robert J. Mills and wife, Dana, Susanne Lima and husband, Manuel, and Stephen Mills, all of Hollister, and Jennifer Mills-Boylan and husband David of Encinitas; grandchildren Kendall Mills, Taryn Mills, Travis Mills, Adam Lima and Amanda Lima, all of Hollister; sister Joanne Baumgartner and husband, David, of Hollister; longtime friend and companion Linda Fine of Hollister; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to a memorial celebration of Robert’s life on Friday, May 14 at 10:30 a.m. at the chapel of Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home at 870 San Benito St. Private inurnment will be held. Donations are preferred the Hazel Hawkins Hospital Foundation c/o Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home.
