Rosario L. Lopez died Saturday, Dec. 6 at his San Juan Bautista home. He was 74.
He was born in Corcoran, Calif., and was a truck driver for Joe Gomes and Herbert Farms. He was an avid hunter and liked the outdoors.
He was very involved with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was the original recyclist. He could find anything you needed if you stopped by his house.
He was a member of the Teamsters’ Union and a past member of the Moose Lodge.
He came to San Juan Bautista from Chino in 1941.
He served his country faithfully in the Army during the Korean War.
He married his wife, Rebecca in 1951 in Reno, Nev. He and Rebecca owned and operated the Mission Cafe in San Juan for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife Rebecca Lopez of San Juan Bautista; his children and their spouses Gloria Gutierrez of Hollister, Ted and Rose Lopez of Gilroy, Danny Lopez of San Jose, Linda Lopez and Rick Larios of San Juan Bautista and his son-in-law Manuel Gutierrez of Hollister; brothers and sister and their spouses Manuel Lopez of Elk Grove, Ruben Lopez of San Juan Bautista, Daniel and Eleanor Lopez of San Juan Bautista, Rosie and Jesse Mejia of Salinas and Larry and Cheryl Lopez of Panoche. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Cruz and Concepcion Lopez and his two sisters Lupe Gomes and Ruth Durate.
Visitation will be from noon until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9 at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 1 p.m. at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home.
Interment and military rites will follow the funeral at San Juan District Cemetery in the veteran’s section.
A reception will follow the services at the San Juan VFW Hall.
