Rosie Avina died unexpectedly Monday, May 19, 2003 at her home in Hollister. She was 85.

Mrs. Avina was born in Mexico. She came to California as a small child and had lived in Hollister for more than 60 years. She was a homemaker all her adult life.

She is survived by her children, Richard Avina of Hollister, Irene Avina of Gilroy, Robert Avina and Rose Cabrera, both of Salinas, Albert Avina of Marina, Lucy Posey and Eleanor Hurtado, both of Paramount, Connie Villapando of Hawaiian Gardens, Florencio Avina of Ontario, Peter Avina of Norco, Virginia Folsom of Rancho Cucamonga and John Avina of Barstow; her sister, Maria Sanchez of Tracy; 33 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Florencio Avina in March 2000; her son, Edward Avina; and her sister, Ramona Duran.

Visitation will be Friday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Cremation will follow at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Crematory. Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
