Led by Diego Leon’s first-place finish, the Anzar boys cross-country team won Thursday’s Mission Trail Athletic League at Gavilan College.

Leon finished with a time of 17:15, winning by less than two seconds over York’s Kobe Lee.

Anzar’s Nat Hsai-Coran finished in fourth with a time of 18:19 and Christian Monroy (18:33) placed seventh to help the Hawks earn the first place finish over squads from York, Pacific Collegiate, Oakwood, Marina, Trinity and Kirby.

Diego Avila’s 10th place finish with a time of 19:15 rounded out the Anzar times.

On the girls side, Felix Yvette (24:07) and Ali Bautista (24:19) placed second and third to help lead the Hawks to a slight victory over Marina. Anzar finished with four runners in the top seven to hang onto the victory.

AHS Volleyball

The Anzar volleyball team improved to 5-1 inside the MTAL Thursday with a 3-0 victory over Carmel.

After a close first-set win (26-24), Anzar controlled the match with a pair of easy set victories (25-13, 25-16).

Raleigh McKinney finished with a game-high 18 kills for the Hawks. Mali Gonzalez contributed 27 digs and Monica Medina finished with 30 assists.

SBHS Volleyball

The San Benito girls volleyball team won its fourth consecutive league match Thursday, sweeping Seaside 3-0 to improve to 4-1 inside the Monterey Bay League.

San Benito controlled the match from the beginning, winning the first set 25-18. In the final two sets, San Benito won 25-13 and 25-22 to clinch the victory.

San Benito returns to league play Tuesday when it hosts Notre Dame at 6:30 p.m.
