Behind five errors, the Balers’ baseball team lost its first game of the season Tuesday 7-5 at the hands of Archbishop Mitty in the first game of the Wilcox tournament

Mitty scored five runs in the third inning to jump out to an early 5-0 lead, scoring all runs off SBHS starter Conner Menez. The Balers, though, responded right back with four runs of their own in the top of the fourth inning.

San Benito would never pull closer, though.

Josh George finished 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Four Balers finished with at least one hit. Cody Freitas, Junior Rodriguez and Zachry Moeller all finished with at least one RBI.

The Balers continued the Wilcox tournament on Thursday.

SBHS golf

The San Benito boys golf team got off to a fast start this week, taking first in a pair of competitions Monday and Tuesday.

On Monday, in a four-team tournament, the Balers scored 199, defeating Bellarmine by four strokes. Aaron Smith and Greg Moreno both shot a team-low 37.

On Tuesday in a league competition, San Benito tied Palma at 207. Rob Smith and Aaron Smith each scored 40. Moreno carded a 41.

“It’s early so we are just trying to figure out where everyone fits,” SBHS head coach Reggie Synegal said. “The boys are playing well.”
