After finishing the season with a 21-4 record and a Monterey Bay League Gabilan Division championship, the San Benito boys basketball team was rewarded for its success.

All five starters earned honors after the season.

Jacob Tonascia – along with a first team all-league selection – earned the co-Most Valuable Player award with Palma’s Noah Allen. Hyram Miskin was also named to the league’s first team for his season.

Michael Breen and Robert Henderson earned second team nominations as well for San Benito. And Brian Becerra was named to the all-defensive team for his play at point guard.

For the Balers’ first league title in nine years, David Kaplansky was also named the coach of the year.

The Balers were tied with Seaside for four all-league selections.

SBHS girls basketball

Thanks to a strong finish to its league season – winning four of its last six games – the Balers’ girls basketball team earned two all-league selections in the MBL’s Gabilan division.

Senior Ellie Burley was named to the all-league first team. Fellow senior Elizabeth Reikowski earned a second-team nomination.

For the second year in a row, San Benito’s Victoria Perez finished the soccer season as the top defensive player in her league. Perez was named one of the MBL’s Gabilan Division’s defensive players of the year. Keeper Marissa Espino also earned the goalkeeper of the year award with Xochitl Camacho-Lopez of Salinas.

Perez was also named one of the seniors of the year along with Gilroy’s Margarita Trigo-Rocha and Camacho-Lopez. Kristen Callanta (junior) and Brianna Bengivengo (sophomore) were also named players of the year for their class.

Perez, Espino, Berenice Bribiesca and Callanta were all named to the league’s first team for their seasons. Bengivengo, Chace Miguel, Alexandra Osborne and Mary Alameda were rewarded with second-league selections.

SBHS boys soccer

After taking third place in the MBL’s Pacific Division with a 6-3-3 record, the Balers were rewarded with six all-league selections.

Ricardo Roque, Andreas Corona and Jose Lopez all were selected to the league’s first team for their season. Eduardo Ojeda, Miguel Prado and Ricardo Bacerra were all named to the second team.
