Behind nearly six innings of strong pitching from Jacob Trujillo, the San Benito baseball team earned its first league win Tuesday with a 3-1 victory over Monte Vista Christian.

All the Balers needed was a two-run fourth inning to talk the lead and hold off the Mustangs.

San Benito needed three pitchers – Conner Menez, Jacob Trujillo and Jacob Tonascia – to earn the victory. The Balers limited the Mustangs to only one run on four hits, despite committing two errors.

Trujillo threw five and two-thirds inning and allowed three hits and the lone run, which came in the bottom of the fourth inning after SBHS scored twice.

At the plate, Tonascia, Michael Breen and Cody Freitas all finished 2-for-4. Freitas, Junior Rodriguez and Troy OCampo all finished with an RBI.

The Balers host Monte Vista Christian at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. San Benito is 5-1 overall.

SBHS volleyball

The San Benito volleyball team improved to 2-0 Tuesday with a 3-0 victory over Alisal.

In two matches, San Benito has only lost one game.

The Balers host Gilroy at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

SBHS tennis

The Balers fell to 0-4 in the young season Tuesday with a 4-3 loss to Christopher.

No. 2 singles player Sunny Singh (6-0, 6-4) and No. 3 singles player Aaron Francis (6-0, 6-4) both took home victories. But San Benito could only earn one more win the rest of the day. No. 1 doubles team of Erick Diaz and Chris Godbout won 6-4, 6-3 for the Balers final victory of the day.
