The San Benito baseball team improved to 7-1 in the young season on Friday beating North Salinas 8-1. It was the second consecutive blowout win for the Balers after dispatching Monte Vista Christian 10-0 on Thursday.

In both games, the Balers jumped on their opponent early and slowly pulled away.

Against the Vikings, the Balers scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and added single runs in the second and third. North Salinas finished the contest with only two hits and five errors.

Josh George finished the game going 3-for-4 with a double, triple and one RBI. Jacob Tonascia drove in another run, hitting a double while going 1-for-4. Junior Rodriguez, Matt Hawk and Cody Freitas all finished with an RBI.

North Salinas’ only run came on a second-inning solo home run by Taylor Torres.

Conner Menez started for the Balers, going six innings and allowing one run while striking out six Vikings.

Against Monte Vista Christian, the Balers scored seven first inning runs on their way to a 10-0 victory. Garret Kelly finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

San Benito’s season continues at 4 p.m. Tuesday at North Salinas High.

SBHS softball

The Balers had mixed results to open the 2013 season in defense of their Central Coast Section title. San Benito split the opening two games of the Annie Lynch Memorial Circle of Champions tournament Saturday, beating Half Moon Bay 6-1 and falling to Salinas 4-1.

The Balers return to the field Saturday in the third game of the Circle of Champions tournament against North Salinas.

SBHS volleyball

The Balers improved to 3-0 on the season with a 3-0 victory over Gilroy on Thursday. The Balers rolled to the victory beating Gilroy 25-8, 25-14 and 25-10.
