Helmet giveaway

The Safe Kids California San Benito Partners have been conducting helmet fittings and giveaways at local schools.
The helmets are funded by the Council of San Benito County Governments.
According to an announcement from the partners:
During the month of April, members of the Safe Kids California San Benito Partners will be conducting helmet fittings at several local schools. Students who ride their bicycle to school on the day of the event will receive a free helmet and/or helmet fitting. The helmet fitting event is part of a collaborative effort with the Hollister School District to reduce unintentional childhood injuries in San Benito County.
On April 15, 2015, members of the Safe Kids California San Benito Partners conducted a free helmet fitting at R.O. Hardin Elementary School. Over 20 students received a free helmet. As the Safe Kids California San Benito Partners were packing up the event, they were notified that a student who had just received a free helmet minutes earlier, had been involved in a collision with a vehicle. As of April 16, 2015, we are glad to report that the student is in good condition. Student also receives a new helmet and bicycle. It is highly recommended that helmets be replaced following a crash in order to maintain it in good condition.
Safe Kids California San Benito Partners wishes to encourage all parents to require that their child wear a properly fitted helmet while riding a bicycle, skateboard, scooter, etc. Moreover, California Law also requires that bicyclists under the age of 18 wear a properly fitted and fastened bicycle helmet.
Those interested in obtaining a helmet for another child, please feel free to contact the San Benito County Public Health Department at (831) 637-5367, which offers affordable helmets to eligible low income families.
The goal of the Safe Kids Partners is to prevent unintentional childhood injuries through the collaborative efforts of community agencies to provide education and public awareness of the leading causes of injuries. Such agencies include the California Highway Patrol, San Benito County Public Health Department, Hollister Parks and Recreation Department, Hollister Fire Department, Youth Alliance, and the Council of Governments.
Helmets were funded by the Council of San Benito County Governments.
Safe Kids California San Benito Partners wishes to thank the first responders at the scene (City of Hollister Police Department, California Highway Patrol (CHP), City of Hollister Fire Department, and AMR Ambulance).
