This past Sunday, May 7, 2017, Sally FitzJohn McAbee decided to take her final rest after living a life filled with passion, daring, courage, adventure and love. She crossed the divide peacefully, with the same grace and poise that defined her life.

Born in Blue Ridge Georgia, she never lost her southern charm and warmth. Hollister now says goodbye to its’ own Georgia peach, who spent 42 years living, contributing and enriching her community.
Sally was married to Thomas FitzJohn and Herbert McAbee, who both preceded her in the final journey; as did her son Gregory FitzJohn. As happy as she must be to see them and all her other friends and family again, those of us who are left behind mourn the loss of this amazing lady in our lives.
A testament to her lively spirit and innate curiosity about the world at large was the colorful and heated family exchange we had on the current state of our country and politics a few days before her passing. It is these light moments, sprinkled in with memories of the powerful matriarch of the FitzJohn clan who ferociously loved and defended her family and friends, that will endure in our hearts and minds.

Contributions are preferred to the Wounded Warrior Project c/o the mortuary.

We will bid Sally a final farewell at the Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home in downtown Hollister, CA, at 1:00pm in the afternoon on Wednesday May 17, 2017. Visit www.grunnagle.com for condolences.
