There is nothing more precious than our young people.
They are our hopes of a better city, county, state, country and
world as future leaders.
Whether they are your children or those of others, we still
should have a common goal: Keeping them safe and providing them
with the tools to fulfill their dreams.
There is nothing more precious than our young people.
They are our hopes of a better city, county, state, country and world as future leaders.
Whether they are your children or those of others, we still should have a common goal: Keeping them safe and providing them with the tools to fulfill their dreams.
Our county and city is no different than many others in the fact that it is fraught with danger to destroy these dreams.
The path to success in our current society is a tough one.
There is increasing violence, accessibility to drugs, sex at an early age, broken families, under-funded schools and law enforcement, many forms of hatred and prejudice, just to name a few.
Ignorance itself can wield a deadly weapon to our young people who simply want a chance to better themselves in a healthy and productive way.
The pace of life these days is a hectic one and often it is our young people who pay the price.
But there are many groups of people who have decided to make a stand and clear that path to success. They lower the hurdles and help remove the barriers.
We would like to take a moment today to salute three of them.
On Tuesday, Mary Ann Solberg, deputy director to the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, took some time out of her busy schedule to visit Hollister and praise the San Benito Prevention Coalition.
She simply heard about the terrific things our group was doing in San Benito County, including its San Benito Youth Council.
On Wednesday, the San Benito Chamber of Commerce announced plans to form Leadership San Benito County, which will draw from people of all ages, but will certainly open up paths for young people to become current and future leaders of our county.
Add the outstanding Hollister Police Department’s DARE program that was rescued by the current Hollister City Council during a funding crisis and we have three groups of local folks who are making a difference.
There are many more who are under this umbrella of hope for our young people – parents, teachers and mentors to name a few.
Thanks to everyone who is making a stand in a world that has become increasingly difficult for our young people to succeed.
There is nothing more important than this investment in our future.
