I’m writing this letter just to comment on a couple of things. I
have started to believe that San Benito County will always be San
Benito County. I don’t see a big change ever taking place here
because of so much negativity. No matter who tried to bring
something here that could help jobs and the economy, the negative
people start to nag until the ones interested get tired and
leave.
Editor,
I’m writing this letter just to comment on a couple of things. I have started to believe that San Benito County will always be San Benito County. I don’t see a big change ever taking place here because of so much negativity. No matter who tried to bring something here that could help jobs and the economy, the negative people start to nag until the ones interested get tired and leave.
There is an old saying, “If you live afraid, afraid they will dig your grave.” A week ago, I took a business ride to San Joaquin Valley where I was surprised with their progress. You can see how well they have flourished. On my way back, I passed Casa De Fruta. There was a line of cars a half-mile long waiting to turn left from 152 to 156. I decided to drive west on San Felipe Road. When I got to the intersection of 152 and 156, I witnessed a suicide left turn. The cars turning left from 152 to 156 were sticking their heads in to cross making the through traffic going east stop for them to proceed.
I understand the Valley Transportation Authority recommended a solution to this problem that some of our leaders were not happy with. To me, this is not a thing to wait on. This is a solution that must be resolved not tomorrow, but today. Maybe there should be some temporary lights so each side can move freely, one side at a time. Or, you are going to hear how people are dying in this dangerous situation.
I feel in these cases, Caltrans should have the power to fix them without being stopped. I feel the nagging ones should hold their horses. In my years of experience out there, I see a very serious problem on this particular spot.
I also would like to comment on the plan to build a bridge on Hospital Road. This is a plan by Max Bridges who I used to call “The Liberal.” In my opinion, this bridge makes no sense for different reasons. One reason is that there will never be a highway here for maybe 40 or 50 cars a day. A bridge life is 60-70 years. About $9 million dollars or more would be a waste in this case when a low crossing with $2-3 million will do the job and will last, I say, longer than a bridge.
If I recall, our supervisor, when they voted to approve this bridge, voted against it. He voted in favor of the low crossing. Now he’s in the position to do something about that. Just take a look at the low crossing on Tres Pinos Creek. I pushed for that during the years I worked for Public Works. This crossing worked just fine with only a few inconvenient days in the year when there was high water.
Remember, federal money is our money. If we spend too much and get them in a bind, they just raise your taxes. That’s our money. How about the Nash crossing? A bridge there I can see would benefit people. It seems like you are running away from there. I’d like to say this is my opinion only. I hope it is yours too.
