South Championship Meet.
Santa Clara – Despite frigid temperatures, 1,500 swimmers gathered at the Santa Clara International Swim Center last weekend for the Zone 1 South Championship Meet.

San Benito Aquatics, with 41 swimmers competing, had its highest scoring day ever with 422.5 points to finish second in Division III. The Hollister representatives placed ahead of Gilroy, which had 254 points.

For some of the swimmers such as Megan Geary, this was the first time competing at a championship meet. While for others, such as Shelli Reed, Matt McCullough, Blane Curtice and Stephanie Rodriguez, it was a base-line meet for high school competition starting next month.

Some of the outstanding swimmers included Elizabeth Fleming, 6, Lauren Klauer, 7, Heather Smith,10, Matthew Thomas, 8, Nathan Thomas, 12, and Zach Tolentino, 10.
