Dear Editor:
Our sixth annual Relay For Life begins in four weeks! We now have 47 teams signed up and ready to walk cancer right out of our town! To meet our goal of 65 teams, raising $175,000 and celebrating 150 survivors – we need you to get involved.
The American Cancer Society tells us “It’s about a community that takes up the fight.” Get involved by forming a team, sponsoring, purchasing luminary bags or registering as a survivor. The public is welcomed and encouraged to attend the day of the event.
I don’t know a single person who hasn’t been touched by cancer. I promise, once you have observed the luminaria ceremony, you will be back every year. In 2003, our Relay For Life was able to raise $163,672.31 – our best year ever. The 2004 Relay For Life will be held at San Benito High School on Andy Hardin Field. The event begins at 5 p.m. on Friday, August 6 and continues for 24 hours until 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 7. The luminaria ceremony begins at 9 p.m. – don’t miss it!
Please call 635-9747 or visit our Web site at www.cancer.org for more information.
See you at the Relay,
Jeana Arnold,
2004 Event Chairperson
