Anzar takes fifth place in MTAL tournament hosted at San Juan
Oaks
Hollister – Darrel Aton enjoyed a little home cooking, tying for medalist honors as San Benito placed third in Thursday’s Tri-County Athletic League tournament at Ridgemark, the Haybalers’ home course.
Palma’s Cory Donnelly tied Aton’s top score of 38 as he helped the Chieftains take first at 195. Gilroy came in second at 216, with San Benito scoring 221. Salinas and Alvarez finished tied for fourth at 229.
“We had high expectations for today, we were definitely looking to make a move today,” ‘Balers coach Andy Parra said. “I don’t think the kids are satisfied just because they know they’re a better team than that.”
While Parra was happy to see the team break into third place after finishing fourth in each of the previous tournaments, he was hoping it could’ve place ahead of Gilroy – a team’s its been close to all season but has yet to beat out.
“Gilroy played really well,” Parra said. “They had consistent numbers all the way through.”
Josh Greenwood finished with a score of 44, Chad Stanger carded a 45. Joey Amaral and Nolan Filice shot 47 and Robbie Sanchez shot 49.
The ‘Balers will take the course again when they compete in the Aptos Seascape Classic on Monday.
“We’ll look at that as a tune-up for the league finals,” Parra said.
