San Benito suffered its second straight heartbreaker to start the Tri-County Athletic League girls basketball season.

After several rallies were not enough in a two-point loss to Salinas on Thursday, the Haybalers dropped another tough one by falling 47-45 in overtime to Notre Dame on Saturday.

The Spirits, who trailed at the end of each of the first three quarters, outscored San Benito 7-5 in the extra period to earn the win.

The ‘Balers jumped out to an 11-6 first-quarter lead and still held a two-point advantage after the second and third quarters.

But the game was knotted at 40 after regulation and the ‘Balers (3-10, 0-2) couldn’t pull out the victory.

Vanessa Farias paced San Benito with 12 points and Elena Fata added 11.

Nathalie Godoy led Notre Dame (9-7, 1-1) with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Lyncee Mendalla added 11 points and Meghan Garcia had eight points and 14 rebounds.n Staff Reports
