San Francisco – San Benito had a solid performance Saturday at the San Francisco Invitational at Sacred Heart Cathedral, earning a pair of victories out of five matches in the 20-team tournament.

In the tournament opener, the Haybalers went the distance with Galileo before dropping a 25-18, 18-25, 15-13 decision. Luis Rosales (15 assists) and Erik Rodriguez (eight kills) paced that effort.

San Benito (8-9) rebounded in its next game, beating Campolindo in another three-game affair, 21-25, 25-20, 15-13.

Following a loss to Central Coast Section powerhouse Archbishop Mitty, the San Benito came back with a three-game victory over The King’s Academy, 25-15, 21-25, 15-12.

Rosales again hit the double-digit mark with 12 assists and Sterling Wilson had six kills and six blocks while Chris Flippo had a game-high seven digs.

The ‘Balers wrapped up the tournament with a two-game loss to host Sacred Heart Cathedral.

Rosales finished with 45 assists in the five matches. Wilson had 25 kills and 22 blocks, Rodriguez had 24 kills, David De La Cruz had 25 digs, Flippo had 21 kills and 22 digs.

San Benito, which is in fourth place in the Tri-County Athletic League at 5-3, will return to league play when it travels to face second-place Seaside (13-9, 6-1) at 6:30pm today.
