Roy Harrison

San Juan Bautista resident Roy A. Harrison, arrested in June and accused of having sex with a minor, has accepted a plea deal and is set for sentencing Tuesday on three related charges, according to court records.

Harrison, 24, is set for a sentence hearing at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday after accepting the plea deal Oct. 5 at a scheduled preliminary examination.

Prosecutors agreed to drop six charges for convictions on three others – lewd and lascivious acts with a child under age 14, unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor who is more than three years younger, and possessing pornographic materials with images of a minor.

A conviction on the lewd acts charge calls for a low term of five years in prison and a high term of 10 years, according to the penal code. The other two crimes call for respective jail terms of up to one year.

Harrison, in the meantime, has been referred to a doctor who was scheduled to determine if he is a sexual predator or pedophile, according to court records.

The case dates back to May. Sheriff’s deputies arrested Roy Harrison at his San Juan Bautista home after conducting interviews following the original tip given May 25.

Detectives had alleged he committed unlawful sex with a minor. That was after interviews revealed allegations that Harrison had a sexual relationship with the girl and told the female victim he was going to take her to Las Vegas “to make a new start together,” according to the sheriff’s office.
