Dear Editor,

Are you life long pioneers of San Benito Co. as disgusted with the San Juan Oaks project supposedly moving forward as I am?

One only needs to travel a short distance to Gilroy, namely Eagle Ridge off Santa Teresa Boulevard, to get a picture of what the foot hills of San Juan Valley will look like in the not so distant future if this project is allowed to proceed.

No more rolling hills for grazing or flat land for row cropping. This project will destroy the necessity for productivity of ag land.

Our precious land will be replaced with asphalt and million-dollar cookie cutter homes.

Mr. Fuller along with the four supervisors seem to think they’re doing the county residents a favor by defining the first 30 homes as affordable. Funny none of then will define affordable in terms of dollars isn’t it? Their definition of affordable is $700,000 -plus instead of $1 million. Keep in mind this doesn’t include the price of the lot.

Why continue this insane building when there are no jobs?

I’ve yet to see affordable homes built on a golf course county club.

Affordable housing should be something a two-income family earning $40,00 per year or less can conceivably afford to purchase. This might be a home priced somewhere between $160,000 to $180,000.

Realistically, that’s what the forgotten population of Hollister might be able to afford.

This development isn’t designed to attract any locals – a tale told by price tags.

There’s a lot hot air circulating about a secondary access road to Highway 156. If this project goes forward (God forbid), the implementation of this road, along with all other infrastructure must be in place before any lot is developed. Otherwise the supervisors and Mr. Fuller will conveniently forget about them just like service area 26.
