After six years of planning, and more than a year of fundraising, San Juan School will hold the ribbon cutting ceremony for its new marquee sign today.

The sign, which is at the Nyland Drive entrance to the school in San Juan Bautista, took a large fundraising effort from the larger community.

Students raised more than $10,000 to pay for the sign, by selling bricks and asking for donations.

“We could not have done it without the support of the community,” said Shawna DeLeon, president of the San Juan Home and School Club. “You’d think it’s just a sign, but if you knew how many people put their time and energy into this, it’s really more than that.”

The ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion will be at 4pm today. There will be refreshments provided by the San Juan Home and School Club.
