Sandra Hanna died Monday, Feb. 14th in Stanford Hospital after a
lengthy illness. She was 65.

Ms. Hanna was born in Gilroy and graduated from Gilroy High in 1957 with honors. She was a worthy advisor in the Rainbow Girls. She graduated from San Jose State with both a BA and Masters in Education – again with honors. Her Education career led her to North Lake Tahoe where she taught elementary school classes for four years. Then she went to Germany and taught Air Force Dependent children for three years. Finally, she returned to California and concluded her career by teaching for 33 years in the Campbell Union School District. Upon retirement, she was commended by the District for her exemplary performance.
Ms. Hanna was an avid outdoor enthusiast, climbing Half Dome in Yosemite and Mt. Whitney. She was a member/officer of the California Art Education Association. She traveled extensively: China, Mexico and Europe (Sweden, Germany, England and Scotland, etc). She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Magnolia Chapter, Gilroy Historical Society and FRFG in Gilroy. She will be missed by many of the numerous people whose lives she touched and improved.
She is survived by her mother and father, Mildred and Sandoe Hanna; her brothers, Bill and wife Alice, Roy and Terri and Tom and wife, Kathy; nieces Wendy and husband Jeff Wilson, Laurie and husband Michael Gallegos, Robin and husband Kevin Boden of Colo., Ruth Hanna of Livermore, and Suzanne and husband Mohamed Ali of Riverside; nephews Bruce Hanna of Hollister, and Zachery and wife Wynette of Juneau, Alaska; two grand-nieces and four grand-nephews.
Memorial services will be held at Habing Family Funeral Home, 129 Fourth St, Gilroy at 2 pm, on February 26. Reception to follow immediately at the Hanna residence. The family suggests donations be made to the favorite charity of your choice.
