Sarah Waters Schmidt died at her daughter’s home in Paicines on Friday, March 26, 2004.
She was 78 years old and born in San Jose. She had lived in San Benito County for many years and graduated from San Benito Junior College and Humboldt State University with a degree in sociology and then worked for Humboldt County and San Benito County in social services. She was a homemaker who enjoyed genealogy and was active in her lifetime in 4-H, the Farm Bureau and Cowbelles.
She is survived by her children and their spouses Kathy and Joe Spencer, of Paicines, Crystal and Walt Henzi, of Gilroy, and Brian and Tina Schmidt of Half Moon Bay; her sisters Mary Mattos, of Hollister, and Joan Destefanis, of Hollister; and her granddaughter Amber Henzi, of Los Angeles.
A celebration of her life and reception will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. at her home, 1320 Westward Drive, Hollister.
Arrangements and cremation are through Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home and Gavilan Hills Crematory.
Donations are preferred to Hospice or The Jef Schmidt Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o the funeral home.
