A Hollister resident convicted of spousal abuse was sentenced to jail Monday and jury tampering charges may soon follow.
Doug Hogeman, 40, was sentenced to 90 days in the San Benito County Jail and three years probation for spousal abuse against his wife of 17 years, said San Benito County District Attorney John Sarsfield.
Hogeman was also arrested in March for jury tampering in connection with the spousal abuse conviction, but hasn’t been formally charged yet, Sarsfield said.
“The Sheriff’s Department completed their investigation and the new case is under review,” Sarsfield said.
Hogeman allegedly conspired with another Hollister resident, Ronald Scott Martin, to tamper with the jury’s outcome.
The men allegedly attempted to bribe a juror in an attempt to save a Hogeman’s 30-piece gun collection, however Hogeman’s attorney for the spousal abuse case disputed the allegations.
Martin has not been arrested or charged either, but was referred to the district attorney’s office for jury tampering and conspiracy, according to the sheriff’s department.
“We were sent a referral on both,” Sarsfield said. “We’re considering what to do with the whole thing.”
Hogeman’s attorney, Public Defender Greg LaForge, has begun his investigation into his client’s case, he said.
