Saturnino “Sat” Quinones Tambo, a longtime resident of Hollister, died of cancer on April 10 at Bethel Baptist Hospital in Malaybalay, Philippines. He was 67.
He was born on May 2, 1941 to Fernando & Victoria Tambo of Pangasinan, Philippines who preceded him in death. He was currently married to Maria Remedios of the Philippines who is currently residing there.
Sat was married to Lida Laguan on May 2, 1959. She is currently residing in Reno, NV. They were married for 18 years. On September 2, 1970, they arrived to the United States and began their new life in San Luis Obispo before moving to San Juan Bautista and Hollister. Together they produced three children who survive: Theresa (Lionel) Madamba of California, Cesar (Holly) Tambo of Nevada, and Joanne (David) Schnelle of Illinois. Also surviving is a son from a previous marriage, Ernie, Jr. of California; a brother, Paulo Tambo of the Philippines; a nephew, Renier Tambo of the Philippines; a cousin, Dionisia Tambo Natividad of California; and nine grandchildren: Natalie (17), Montana (15), Alec (13), Brec (12), Samantha (11), Cruz (10), Chynna (5), Alaire (5), and Nikki (3).
In 1961, he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture from Araneta Institute of Agriculture in Malabon, Philippines. He moved away from Hollister upon retiring from Ferry-Morse Seed Company. He lived in the bay area before moving back to the Philippines. Sat enjoyed planting vegetables, gardening, fishing, cooking, singing, and dancing. His family misses him very much.
Funeral and burial services took place at St. Peter Chapel – Villanueva Funeral Home in Malaybalay City, Philippines on April 16. A memorial service will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Hollister on Friday, June 20 at 2:00 P.M. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society in his honor.
