The San Benito High School District is looking for seven volunteers for the Citizens’ Oversight Committee for their general obligation facilities bond, Measure G, which was passed in June.
“They get a first hand view of what is taking place and the progress on certain buildings but they are placed there to make sure that the money approved by our voters is used within the laws and the regulations of the bond measure,” said John Perales, the superintendent of the SBHS district.
The high school is required by state law to form a committee of at least seven community members that serve two-year terms.
There are specific requirements for five of the positions. The group must include at least one member of the business community, a member of a local, regional, statewide or national senior citizens’ organization, a member of a local, regional, statewide or national tax payers organization, a parent or guardian of a student at the high school and a parent or guardian of a student at the high school who is also an active participant in the Parent Teacher Organization or the Schoolsite Council. All representatives must live within the high school district’s boundaries.
The search for volunteers started after the district’s trustees approved a resolution at their regularly scheduled board meeting Aug. 13.
Completed applications must be submitted to the superintendent’s office on the second floor of the high school’s administration building by 5 p.m. Friday October 13. For more information or to receive an application, email the Superintendent’s Administrative Assistant Tricia Cooper at
