Students planning to attend the University of California at Davis in fall 2003 are eligible for a scholarship of up to $4,000.

The UC Davis Cal Aggie Alumni Association will award scholarships of varying amounts between $1,000 and $4,000 to 60 students across the nation, said Kim St. George, scholarship chairperson.

Students must demonstrate leadership in their community, school activities, work or family and have a 3.5 GPA (freshmen) or 3.25 (transfer students), St. George said. Scholarships are also based on scholastic achievement and excellence in course load.

Each applicant is required to write an essay on their leadership qualities. The scholarships are not based on financial need. All students, regardless of interest or desired major, can apply. Applicants will be interviewed and selected by a local alumni committee.

The estimated cost of attending UC Davis for one year is $16,000 for students living on campus and $14,000 for those living off campus.

Students in San Benito and Monterey counties are encouraged to apply. The deadline is Feb. 1. For more information, call the CAAA at (800) 242-4723 or go to www.alumni.ucdavis.edu.
