Assemblyman Luis A. Alejo invites students across the 28th assembly district to visit http://asmdc.org/members/a28/scholarships for information on available scholarships.

“For many, the cost of a college education is a huge barrier to a degree. No one should lose out on college because they did not know about free resources to help pay for college,” said Alejo. “My website tracks available scholarships to help make the cost of higher education more affordable.”

The website makes scholarship information available from statewide organizations, public service groups and other institutions promoting affordable education opportunities.  Organizations and individuals interested in adding a scholarship to the list should contact Sasha Horwitz at (916) 319-2028.

Among the scholarship listings are:

IBEW Local 234 Essay Contest – Three $500 scholarships to high school graduates in San Benito, Monterey and Santa Cruz counties who have a past or present union member in their immediate family. Entrants must type an essay on one of three topics.

California Grocers Association – Two hundred scholarships ranging from $500 to $5,000 available to students for the 2012-2013 academic year.

NFIB Young Entrepreneur Awards – One hundred scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 available to graduating high school seniors entering their freshman year of college who are running their own small business.

Alejo is also accepting applications for his internship programs in the capitol (Sacramento) and district office (Salinas). Students “interested in a rewarding experience working for the State Assembly” should visit Alejo’s website for more information and an application.
