Hollister School District trustees and city council members will meet next week to discuss projected population growth with enrollment expected to climb in the next three years.
The special joint meeting will take place at 5 p.m. in the Hollister City Council Chambers, located at 375 Fifth St. in downtown Hollister. The meeting will run from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. It proceeds the regular city council meeting scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. in the same location.
As part of the special joint meeting, staff from the Hollister School District will provide historical information about population growth as well as projections for the future. Council members and trustees will also discuss opportunities for future planning.
The special meeting follows the school district’s April 26 board gathering where trustees heard from a demographer. The consultant from Davis Demographics & Planning, Inc. suggested the district build more schools or adjust school boundaries to accommodate the projected population growth.
The district’s student population for the transitional kindergarten through eighth grade students is expected to increase by 1,000 students by 2019, according to the most recent demographer’s report.
The school enrollment is expected to hit 5,922 by fall 2016, which is 277 more than the prior fall, according to the report.
