Four volunteers honored with Silver Beaver Awards
The Monterey Bay Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America
honored four volunteers for distinguished service to youth at their
annual recognition dinner earlier this month in Monterey. The
Silver Beaver Award, a National Award and the highest honor that a
local BSA council may bestow upon volunteers, was presented to
Steve Earley of Pacific Grove, Mark Surber of Santa Cruz, Paul Hill
of San Juan Bautista, and John Wrobel of Hollister. Each honoree
received a pendant award and framed certificate from the National
Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

The Monterey Bay Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America honored four volunteers for distinguished service to youth at their annual recognition dinner earlier this month in Monterey. The Silver Beaver Award, a National Award and the highest honor that a local BSA council may bestow upon volunteers, was presented to Steve Earley of Pacific Grove, Mark Surber of Santa Cruz, Paul Hill of San Juan Bautista, and John Wrobel of Hollister. Each honoree received a pendant award and framed certificate from the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Paul Hill has served Scouting as Scoutmaster of Troop 428 in San Juan Bautista and as a merit badge counselor. Paul is best known for his many years of service as Cubmaster of Pack 428.

John Wrobel has been involved with Scouting since he was a Cub Scout in 1961. John earned his Eagle Scout Award in 1969. He later served as an assistant scoutmaster in Mississippi and Okinawa, Japan while in the armed forces. John is well known for being the leaders’ Roundtable commissioner in Hollister.

The dinner at Laguna Seca Golf Ranch in Monterey was attended by Scouting volunteers from throughout Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz counties. The program also included the installation of officers for the BSA council, and special honors for pack, troop, and crew leaders from throughout the area.
