David Bridwell

ENGAGEMENT: Flores/Danze: Melissa Renee Flores and Matthew Ryan Danze are engaged to be married.

Melissa, daughter of  Mr. and Mrs. Mario and Mary Ann Flores of Hollister, is a 2004 graduate of San Benito High School. She has earned a bachelor’s degree from San Francisco State University in American history; as well as her Multiple Subject Credential from Cal State Monterey Bay. She is a third-grade teacher at Spring Grove School.

Matthew, son of Mr. and Mrs. Steve and Tami Gessell, is a 2002 graduate of San Benito High School. He is employed as a Journeyman Glazier at Pacific Glazing Contractors in Morgan Hill.

The couple plan a July 2012 wedding and will reside in Hollister with their daughter, McKaela.

David Bridwell

Greg and Rosemary Bridwell are proud to announce their son David graduated from the University of California, Irvine with a doctoral degree in psychology.

David conducted research within the field of cognitive neuroscience where he examined the neural mechanisms involved in attention and visual perception. His latest research characterized the brain networks involved in enhancing relevant information and suppressing irrelevant (ignored) information. The findings were accepted for publication within one of the top journals in psychology.

David and his wife Laura live in Albuquerque, N.M. where he works as a postdoctoral fellow at the Mind Research Network. His research will combine different measures of brain activity in order to better understand the brain in healthy and clinical populations.

Shirley Atkins

Metropolitan Adult Education Program (MAEP) Adult High School Independent Study Program Instructor and Curriculum Specialist, Shirley Atkins, of Morgan Hill, has been named Metropolitan Education District’s (MetroED) 2011-12 Teacher of the Year. Atkins will be honored at the Santa Clara County Office of Education’s Teacher of the Year ceremony in September.

Atkins has been with MetroED for six years and is responsible for a wide variety of tasks including monitoring the ISP’s many compliance requirements. When Atkins is not teaching, she enjoys spending time with her husband of 37 years, Charles, and her two adult sons. Atkins enjoys volunteering as a fire lookout for the U.S. Forest Service in Oregon, traveling, porcelain china painting, puzzles and math.

Cristian Mendoza

Cristian Mendoza, of Gilroy, has recently been named to the Dean’s List at Boston University for the spring semester.

Boston University is the fourth largest independent university in the United States, with an enrollment of more than 29,000 students in its 17 schools and colleges.

Jeremy Liem

Jeremy Liem, of Hollister, graduated from the Tulane University School of Law with a juris doctor and certificate degree on May 19. He was one of 2,700 students to graduate in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

Emma Northcott

Emma Northcott, of Morgan Hill, was among 1,900 students from Wake Forest University who made the Spring 2012 Dean’s List.

Wake Forest University combines the best traditions of a small liberal arts college with the resources of a large research university and is located in Winston-Salem, N.C.
